We were pleased to welcome Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, to the Starship factory in Wirral to see first-hand how our approach to housebuilding is delivering greener, smarter, zero-bills homes. The visit was an opportunity to talk openly about the scale of the housing challenge across the City Region and how innovation in construction can play a practical role in meeting ambitious housing targets without compromising on quality, affordability or sustainability.

During the visit, the Mayor spent time with Starship CEO Dave Dargan discussing how industrialised construction and modern methods of manufacture can accelerate delivery while driving down energy use and long-term costs for residents. The focus was not just on building more homes, but on building better homes that are fit for the future and resilient to rising energy prices.
The conversation also reflected on recent delivery in Wallasey, where Starship built homes for a landmark development led by Onward Homes.
That scheme was supported by Brownfield Land Funding from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and stands as a clear example of how public investment, housing providers and modern construction can work together to unlock challenging sites and deliver high-performing homes. Seeing manufacturing, assembly and quality control in a factory setting helped reinforce the benefits of an industrialised approach, including consistency, speed of delivery and the ability to embed energy performance and sustainability into the fabric of homes from day one.
The Mayor’s visit was a strong endorsement of the role innovation can play in addressing the housing crisis locally. It also underlined the importance of collaboration between industry, local authorities and regional government to turn policy ambition into homes that people can afford to live in and afford to run. For us, it was a valuable opportunity to share how what we are doing today can help shape the future of housing across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.
